Oryctos was founded in 1998 at the Musée des Dinosaures in Espéraza, Southern France. Since 2003, Oryctos is the official Scientific Journal of the EAVP.

Oryctos publishes in French or English peer-reviewed original contributions on all aspects of Vertebrate Palaeontology and Comparative anatomy, as well as papers dealing with the history of those scientific disciplines. There is no length limit on papers submitted to Oryctos, and monographs are acceptable.

An issue of Oryctos may be devoted to a single topic under the responsibility of guest editor(s).

Oryctos is published with financial support from the Association Dinosauria*, the EAVP and contributions from Departmental and Regional councils.
